Art Deco bracket

This signal retains its original appearance after so many years. Note the yellow megaphones mounted on the mast; they were very common in the 1960s.

Southern Boulevard at McAlpin Street

Shades of Syracuse!

Four-way signals in Albany have normally been pagoda-style fixed signals.

But not here.

This intersection has an Art Deco-style four-way bracketed signal, mainly because the angle of the intersection demands such an installation. In this view, Southern Boulevard veers off to the left, and McAlpin Street is at the right. At least two other intersections had Art Deco brackets, one on New Scotland Avenue (near Albany College of Pharmacy) and at the intersection of Manning Boulevard, North Main Avenue and Kent Street (a five-way intersection). The Southern Boulevard installation survives.
